Preparations continued for the Steelers on Monday in preparation for their upcoming preseason contest with the Detroit Lions on Saturday with a closed practice, and one of the areas highlighted during practice was the running back platoon.
Running backs coach Eddie Faulkner commented on how his committee of running backs has endured some bumps along the way – such as injuries – and said that he feels good about where they are at this point in the preseason.
Faulkner also commented on Najee Harris’ work ethic during training camp, saying he’s been excellent so far.
Saturday’s game will air on WDAD FM 100.3 and AM 1450.
The Steelers yesterday also announced that fans will be required to wear masks for this Saturday’s preseason, regardless of vaccination status.
Team spokesman Burt Lauten said in an official statement that all guests, staff and vendors at Heinz Field will be required to wear a mask while visiting any indoor area of the stadium, which includes bathrooms, elevators, team stores, etc.
Lauten added that fans will not be required to show proof of vaccination to enter the stadium, however unvaccinated fans should wear a mask, while not actively eating or drinking.
Heinz Field management will continue to monitor CDC guidelines and adjust policies accordingly.

NFL:
The Houston Texans are again missing a familiar face at practice this week.
Deshaun Watson was a no-show at Houston’s Monday practice, following his week-long absence from training camp earlier this month. The quarterback did not play in the Texans’ first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers and was listed fourth in the team’s first unofficial depth chart.
Watson is still facing allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior in 22 active lawsuits. On top of that, he also requested to be traded in January.
In other football news, a former Pro Bowl quarterback is joining the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
ESPN announced that Alex Smith will join the network as analyst for NFL coverage. Smith will be featured on SportsCenter, Monday Night Countdown and Sunday NFL Countdown.
Smith was the number one overall draft pick out of Utah in 2005 and spent 16 years with the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Football Team. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013, 2016 and 2017.
