The Pirates’ bats could not solve J.A. Happ as the Cardinals beat the Pirates last night at PNC Park.

Manager Derek Shelton liked the outing by Steven Brault, despite the two home runs he surrendered.
Shelton admires the swing of Hoy Park, who since he was acquired from the Yankees is 9-for-28, a .321 batting average, with four doubles and last night his first career home run. Shelton says the swing has some “thump” to it.
The Pirates sent outfielder Ka’ai Tom to Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment. He’s been out since July 3rd with a back injury. Tom was 1-for-2 with a home run last night. Infielder Erik Gonzalez cleared waivers and was sent to Indy as well.
Wil Crowe [3-6] faces the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright [10-6]. 6:40 airtime on WCCS.
