Coach Mike Tomlin called it the “dog days” of training camp yesterday after a ragged practice in 90 degree heat.
Tomlin said it “wasn’t a good enough day” that was a mental challenge for his players. He said not enough of them faced the adversity of the heat with a “can-do attitude.”
The practice included several scuffles between offensive and defensive players and a lot of mental mistakes. Today is the final workout before the team gets set to play the Eagles in Philadelphia on Thursday night.
The Steelers signed offensive lineman Malcolm Pidgeon, a 6-7, 310-pound free agent out of Ohio State who spent time with the Browns last season but did not suit up for a game, and the team waived/injured defensive lineman Calvin Taylor.
Wide receiver James Washington missed practice and Tomlin said his injury is being evaluated. Washington left practice Sunday and was later seen with his right knee wrapped in ice.
