A Derry Township man is in the Westmoreland County Prison after his arrest Tuesday for a crash that severely injured a Blairsville man nearly three years ago.
41-year-old Orrin William Burbank of Derry was ordered held without bond after a preliminary arraignment before District Judge Jason Buczak. He is charged with felony aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed; He is also charged with misdemeanor DUI and DUI controlled substance; and five summary traffic offenses.
The accident happened just after 5 PM on October 3rd, 2018 on Route 217 between Bills Lane and Vaughn Lane in Derry Township. Burbank made a left turn in front of a motorcycle he claimed he did not see, colliding with the bike operated by 55-year-old Timothy Mock of Blairsville. Mock was thrown off the cycle, landing on the road 15 feet away. Mock was flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with severe lower body injuries.
Burbank told state troopers he had smoked marijuana the day before and a blood test showed marijuana in his system.
The charges were originally filed in February of 2019. Burbank is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Mark Bilik next Wednesday.
