IUP baseball released its recruiting class for 2021 earlier today, and among the listed names are three Indiana County representatives.
Braden (Brady) Yard headlines Coach Steve Kline’s recruiting class. It was announced on July 2 in a tweet by the Young Township Legion Baseball team that Yard would stay local for his college career. Yard led the state with a .632 batting average and .720 on-base percentage.
He was also went 4-2 as a pitcher with a 2.90 ERA.
Marcus Badzik, a utility player from Marion Center, comes to IUP after a hot senior season with the Stingers. In 18 games 2021, Badzik hit .519 with four home runs and 19 walks. He also tallied a .885 slugging percentage and a 1.537 OPS.
Austin Homer from Indiana rounds out the local recruits after posting a .486 batting average with the Little Indians last season. Homer also brings a prolific defensive game to IUP after posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 11 games last season, according to MaxPreps.
Other notable names include three players from New Smyrna Beach High School: outfielder Au’sean Owens, catcher Devin Landers and infielder Andrew Schell.
The full class, which can be viewed by clicking here , is Kline’s first at the helm of the Crimson Hawks. It features athletes from Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and Maryland, as well as two Division I transfers.
