The Pennsylvania Lottery announced earlier today that more than $1.3 billion went towards benefitting older Pennsylvanians during the 2020-21 fiscal year, marking another record-breaking year in funds that will be put towards senior programs.
Some programs include tax and rent rebates, free and reduced-fare transportation, and more.
When broken down, more than $5.3 billion in scratch-off and draw games – such as Mega Millions and Powerball – went towards the record profit, which surpassed last year’s amount of $3.2 billion.
Online games drew in approximately $887 million in sales. Keno and Xpress monitor games totaled an estimated $54.9 million – an increase of $1.2 million (2 percent) from last year.
While these are extraordinary numbers, PA Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said that it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Lottery employees, who worked diligently during the COVID-19 pandemic.
