Those who have not applied for Pennsylvania RealID will have more time to do so.
PennDOT has announced the Department of Homeland Security has pushed back the enforcement date for RealID-compliant driver’s licenses and photo IDs to May 3rd, 2023. This marks the second time the deadline has been extended. The first deadline was supposed to be October 1st, 2020, but that was delayed one year due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic.
RealID is the federal law that dictates how state-issued drivers licenses and IDs will be in compliance for federal purposes, including entering federal buildings or military building that requires federally acceptable ID and boarding a commercial domestic flight. There is no requirement for anyone to obtain a RealID, and standard issue drivers licenses and IDs are still being offered.
Anyone who wants to apply for RealID can do so through PennDOT’s website. Click on the link below for more information.
