While the River Valley School Board approved the District’s Health and Safety Plan on Tuesday night, the district’s administration is already anticipating changes will be made.
The plan as approved on Tuesday night will give students the option to wear masks except when on the bus. Students on the bus must wear a mask per federal mandate for public transportation. But the CDC on Tuesday changed its guidance, saying that everyone should wear masks in schools, whether they are vaccinated or not. That announcement came as concerns continued to rise over the Delta variant of Covid-19 and its continued spread. Board President Rick Harper echoed the concerns of Superintendent Philip Martell that there will need to be a special meeting early in August to modify the plan.
In other business, the board approved hiring KLH Engineers to perform a sewer evaluation and project at the Blairsville site at a cost of $131 per hour. Harper said the project stems from a problem discovered by sanitation officials.
The board also approved four painting proposals from T. Richards Fine Home Painting for the wrestling room, football stadium, weight room and media center, and two sign proposals from Signs of Excellence, which will update the Blairsville signs to River Valley School District.
