The game became secondary for the Pirates yesterday when Adam Frazier was removed from the lineup in the 8th inning, the first indication that he had been traded.
The news was confirmed afterward that the All-Star second baseman had been shipped to the San Diego Padres for three minor league prospects, infielder/outfielder Tucupita Marcano, outfielder Jack Suwinski, and reliever Mitchell Miliano. The Pirates will also send the Padres $1.4 million.
Manager Derek Shelton says Frazier is a true pro.
Frazier is hitting .324. With him in the lineup, the Padres entire infield is all All-Stars: Frazier, shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., first baseman Jake Cronenworth, and third baseman Manny Machado.
Marcano is the Padres #5 prospect, according to MLP Pipeline. He hit .182 for the Padres this year in 25 games and is hitting .272 at Triple-A. Suwinski is hitting .269 with 15 home runs at Double-A. Miliano is 2-2 with a 3.6o ERA, 59 strikeouts, and 25 walks at Class A.
On the field yesterday, the Pirates dropped the game to the Giants (6-1).

Shelton says the Pirates rebounded well from getting swept by last-place Arizona to taking two out of three from first-place San Francisco.
The Pirates are off today and will start a six-game homestand tomorrow, with three against Milwaukee and then three against the Phillies.
