A longtime Homer City Councilwoman has passed away.
Bernice Harris, better known as “Bea” died on Friday, July 16th at IRMC. She served as a member of Homer City Borough Council for 22 years and was the head of the financial committee for many of those years. Borough Council President Ken “Cal” Cecconi said that he started serving on council a few years after she joined, and said she was a great help to him.
Borough manager Robert Nymick remembered Harris as one who was willing to speak her mind during council meetings.
A lifetime resident of Indiana County, Harris was also a part of the Indiana County Federation of Democratic Women and was named Democratic Woman of the year in 2006. She also made history in the borough as the first female bus driver for the Homer City School District. She also worked with her son, Forest, at Sanso’s for over 20 years while creating her own private-label Italian salad dressing.
