Today is the first day that a portion of one of Indiana’s most heavily travelled roads will be closed for construction.
PennDOT will close Route 286 between Indian Springs Road and Rose Street through next Monday as crews from Gulisek Construction Company continue to work on the $19.83 million Route 286/422 widening and resurfacing project. This includes the widening of the 286/422 interchange, replacement of a bridge over McCarthy Run Creek and the installation of sidewalks along Route 286, along with drain and guide rail upgrades and traffic signal replacements.
The reason for the week-long closure is so that crews can replace an existing box culvert. Motorists are being advised to use Indian Springs Road, Wayne Avenue and Rose Street as their main detour. Local traffic will be able to get to the Indiana Mall and Kwik Fill on the west side, and to Roseann’s and Wash Werkz on the east side.
