The Penguins are still considering who to protect in the upcoming NHL Expansion Draft, but three names do stand out as must-protects due to their contracts.
Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang each have no-movement clauses in their contracts, and by NHL rules, must be protected from selection by the Seattle Kracken.
However, the Pens must protect seven forwards, three defensemen and a goalie or eight total skaters and a goalie.
The expansion draft will be on July 21st.
