The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced this morning that Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went down one-tenth of a percentage point in the month of June.
The state unemployment rate went down to 6.9 percent during June. Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, decreased by 2,000 over the month, as employment rose for the fourth time in the past five months.
The total number of non-farm jobs went up by 11,500 over the month of June to 5,696,900. Jobs increased in five of the 11 industry super sectors. The largest gain was in government, which saw more than 13,500 new jobs. The largest decrease was in construction, which went down by more than 4,100 jobs. This is the second drop in a row for construction.
The national unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.9 percent in June.
Unemployment statistics for individual counties will be released later this month.
