As a sign that things are returning to a state of normalcy, Pennsylvania catholic bishops announced that mass obligations suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic will return in about a month.
In a joint statement from Pennsylvania Bishops, the obligations to attend mass in-person on Sunday and Holy Days will be reinstated on Aug. 15, with the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Parishioners had been excused from attending services in person since March of 2020, when the Coronavirus pandemic started in Pennsylvania and group gatherings were not permitted.
The obligation does not apply to those who are seriously ill, have a serious health risk, those who are anxious about being a part of large groups at this time and those who care for those who cannot attend mass.
The bishops added that it will be a joy to welcome their congregations back to the parishes across the state.
