State Representative Brian Smith announced yesterday that local emergency crews could see some financial assistance through state grant money.
Smith said in a news release that 23 local fire and ambulance departments across Indiana and Jefferson County are eligible to receive funds through a grant program administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, and he says the funding “helps ease the financial burden our local fire and ambulance companies face to stay viable.”
Approximately $269,762 is available in funds, and Smith adds that funding does not come from General Fund tax revenue, but rather from proceeds garnered from slot machine gaming.
Five fire crews in Indiana County are eligible to receive funding. Those include:
- Commodore Volunteer Fire Department – $12,589
- Glen Campbell Volunteer Fire Company – $11,520
- Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department – $12,054
- Plumville District Fire Department – $12,411
- Rossiter Volunteer Fire Department – $11,520
To receive the funds, organizations must first apply and then complete a grant agreement. Information on these grant funds as well as other financial support programs can be found as osfc.pa.gov.
