IUP women’s tennis tied a program record as seven Crimson Hawks earned scholar-athlete recognition by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association during its academic awards ceremony on Tuesday.
The distinction is based on student-athletes holding a grade-point average of AT LEAST 3.5, and athletes must earn a varsity letter while being enrolled in their institution for at least two semesters.
IUP’s honorees included Maria Magraner, Laura Dunarova, Idoia Huerta, Karolin Kirchtag, Joanna Stralka, Katy Graydon and Abby Jones.
This is the fourth consecutive year Magraner earned scholar-athlete honors, while Huerta and Stralka earned honors for the second straight year.
Also earning academic honors were three members of the IUP swimming team, as Paige Mikesell, Claire Mikesell and Rachel Johnson were put on the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team last week.
At-Large teams include athletes from swimming, tennis, fencing and other sports not under the “Big Three” category.
With the selections, IUP women’s swimming has the most representation among any Division II schools.
