Akron Swims Past Curve in Quack Attack
Ji-Hwan Bae singled twice in his first start since returning from the injured list
CURVE, PA – Akron built a 5-0 lead after two innings and cruised to an 8-1 win over the Curve on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Akron scored three times in the first, twice in the second and another in the fifth inning to build what proved to be an insurmountable lead. Andruw Monasterio and Steven Kwan each had two-hit days and every RubberDucks starter managed a hit in the game.
Travis MacGregor was charged with the loss despite completing five innings in his fourth straight outing. MacGregor allowed a season-high six runs, matched a career-high with nine hits allowed, walked two batters, and struck out five in the defeat.
The Curve managed their only run in the eighth inning when Josh Bissonette doubled home Jonah Davis to make it an 8-1 game. Ji-Hwan Bae and Bissonette each had two-hit days at the plate as the Curve avoided a second shutout of the season.
Cam Alldred fired two scoreless innings of relief after MacGregor to hold the line for the Curve. Will Gardner also threw two innings in relief, allowing two runs, one earned, to finish off the game on the mound.
The ‘Ducks and Curve will play a doubleheader on Friday night beginning at 5:00 p.m. to make up Wednesday’s rain out. The twin bill will feature a pair of seven inning games with a 30-minute break in between. Johnstown, PA native, LHP Trey McGough will start in game one of the doubleheader with RHP Osvaldo Bido slated to take the ball in game two. The ‘Ducks will send LHP Juan Hillman in game one and RHP Thomas Ponticelli in game two.
