State police were busy over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Over the four-day weekend, from July 2nd through the 5th, troopers across the state made 503 DUI arrests and issued 8,935 speeding tickets. In addition, 690 crashes were investigated, and nine of those were fatal crashes, killing nine people and injuring 195. 58 of the crashes were alcohol-related and four of the fatal crashes were connected to alcohol use.
State Police in Troop A, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland along with Cambria and Somerset counties, made 29 DUI arrests and issued 649 speeding tickets. 1,206 traffic stops were made, and police investigated 34 crashes. There were no reported fatalities in the crashes investigated by state police, but sixteen people were injured. Six of the crashes were alcohol related.
Police in Troop A also issued 164 seat belt warnings, 33 seat belt citations and one citation for child passenger safety seat violations.
