Marion Center shut out Punxsy S&T Bank, 3-0 last night, while Armstrong downed S.W. Jack, 10-3 in the openers of the Indiana County Youth legion semifinals.
Marion Center scored single runs in the first, second, and sixth innings and held Punxsy to only one hit. Owen Conner went five innings for the win, striking out five and giving up only a one-out first inning single. Grant Casses and Braden Reichenbach pitched the final two innings. Travis Midock had two of Marion Center’s eight hits.
Armstrong jumped out to a 3-0 lead but S.W. Jack tied it up in the third inning before Armstrong took the lead for good in the with a four-run fifth. Logan Gawlinski, Chase Jablonski, Haden Brink, and Brayden Wright each had three hits for Armstrong. Michael Dolan and Michael Tortorella each had two hits for S.W. Jack.
Game two in each of the best-of-three series will be tonight.
