Despite an already crowded race for Sen. Pat Toomey’s seat in the U.S. Senate, another name has joined the fold for the republican ticket – this time it’s the former ambassador to President Donald Trump.
Carla Sands, a Cumberland County native, joins five other announced candidates looking to win the GOP nomination. Those candidates being Army veteran Sean Parnell – who announced his run in April – real estate investor Jeff Bartos, Sean Gale, Kathy Barnette and Everett Stern.
In addition to her appointment as Donald Trump’s ambassador to Denmark in 2017, Sands spent the mid-to-late-2010s raising money for Trump’s campaign and hosting fundraisers at her Bel-Air mansion, which she sold in 2019. Prior to her career in politics, Sands had a brief acting career in film and television.
The democratic ticket still holds the same number of candidates as before, including Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, Malcolm Kenyatta, Val Arkoosh and others.
The primary election is scheduled for next May.
