The Pirates will have the top pick in Sunday’s first round of the MLB Draft, and Baseball America’s newest rankings are unchanged for the top 17 selections. The 18th choice is now Will Bednar, the brother of the Pirates’ David Bednar, who moves up in the rankings based on his performance at the College World Series.
The top five rated players are high school shortstops Jordan Lawlar and Marcelo Mayer, Vanderbilt University righthanded pitchers Jack Leither and Kumar Rocker, and Louisville catcher Henry Davis. Former Pirate Neil Walker will announce the Bucs’ choice at the All-Star festivities in Denver on Sunday.
