Charges against a Penn Run man were held for Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court on Friday during a preliminary hearing regarding a traffic accident in December of 2019.
41-year-old Todd Douglas McCoy is accused of being under the influence of antidepressant medication and smoking cessation drugs when his pickup truck crashed into the back end of an SUV, knocking it into another vehicle that was sitting at a stop sign at Route 22 and Washington Street in New Alexandria. The driver of the stopped vehicle was hospitalized.
According to the court filing, McCoy showed signs of impairment when interviewed by police and agreed to a blood draw. His attorney told the court that McCoy had been prescribed the medications.
McCoy will be formally arraigned in September on one felony charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, plus two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, and four summary traffic offenses. He is free on recognizance.
