Republican John Venture of Hempfield announced Wednesday that he will run for Pennsylvania Governor in 2022, making him the sixth person to declare their candidacy for the position.
The 64-year-old said that his platform will be “never socialist”, and if he is elected, he wants to reduce the size of the state legislature, reduce business taxes by using a two-tier system, eliminate yearly registration fees, reduce turnpike toll fees by 30 percent, remove gender and race questions from all applications and return the state to voter ID with the repeal of act 77.
Venture is a retired executive with UPS security and public affairs, and has also served as the state director of the Mutual UFO Network, which investigates reports of suspected sightings of unidentified flying objects.
He joins a crowded field, which includes former congressman and Hazleton mayor Lou Barletta, Corry council member Jason Monn, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale, Harrisburg communications and marketing firm owner Charlie Gerow, Pittsburgh Lawyer Jason Richey, and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Nche Zama from the Poconos.
