Severe thunderstorms are predicted for our area this afternoon and it seems to be a kick-starter for more storms down the road.
Accuweather meteorologist Paul Walker says that today’s storm is a result of heavy humidity and it could lead to damaging factors.
Walker adds that today’s storm is just the first of a series of storms in the forecast later this week.
Residents are urged to take caution when severe weather hits. One thing to keep in mind is possible flooding from heavy rainfall. In addition, do not cross water on roadways when driving and bring in items such as trash cans and lawn furniture prior to the storm, as winds are predicted to get as high as 40 to 50 miles-per-hour.
Also, watch for possible power outages caused by the heavy winds and lightning.
A severe thunderstorm was spotted near Apollo shortly after 2 p.m.
