NORMAN, Okla. – Three IUP men’s golfers earned regional recognition as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2021 NCAA Division II PING All-Region honorees late Friday afternoon.
Earning All-Atlantic Region honors were juniors Jack Buccigross and Nicholas Ward, and sophomore Shaun Fedor.
IUP’s three selections were the most of any team in the region. The 12-man team is also made up of two golfers each from Davis & Elkins, Charleston, and Gannon, and one each from Fayetteville State, Millersville, and West Liberty.
This marks the 14th straight year IUP put a golfer on the all-region team since the awards began in 2008. It’s also the ninth time during that stretch that at least three Crimson Hawks have earned all-region status.
This is the third straight year that Buccigross has earned all-region honors, joining elite company. Since 2008, six IUP golfers have been named to the All-Atlantic Region team at least three times, including 2009 national champion Gavin Smith (2008-10) and three-time All-American Zack Kempa (2011-14). Buccigross finished the year as the 14th-ranked golfer in the GolfStat Atlantic Region rankings and was second on the team with a 76.18 stroke average in 11 rounds this spring. He had three top-10 finishes in six events, tying for ninth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in April.
Ward earns all-region honors for the second time in his career after finishing third on the team with a 76.36 average. He finished the year ranked No. 16 in the region according to GolfStat and posted two top-5 finishes in the spring, including a team-best fourth place finish at the PSAC Championships.
It’s the second straight regional honor for the sophomore Fedor, who was once again one of the top golfers in the region. He led the Crimson Hawks with a 75.78 average and had five top-15 finishes in six events, including two finishes in the top five. He tied for fifth at the PSACs and was 15th at the NCAA Atlantic/East Region Championship, and finished the year as the 10th-ranked player in the Atlantic.
