State Representative Jim Struzzi has introduced a bill that will assist people who make parts of their property available to the public for recreational use.
Struzzi said that part of House Bill 1694 is based off of the Recreational Use of Land and Water Act of 2018, which protects landowners who make portions of the property available for recreational use from litigation under limited liability. Struzzi’s bill would extend that protection to volunteers, volunteer organizations and those who the landowner invites on their property.
Struzzi said that the time was right to introduce the bill, as outdoor activities have increased since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic and he says that the trend is expected to continue. The bill will assist the community-minded organizations that have helped with the upkeep of these recreational areas, and could spark even more volunteer participation.
The bill will soon be assigned to a committee for preliminary consideration.
