The Pirates got off to a good start on their seven-game road trip last night in St. Louis.

Manager Derek Shelton says the top of the Pirates order, featuring Adam Frazier, Ke’Bryan Hayes, and Bryan Reynolds, has been setting the table for the Pirates. He says Frazier’s swing has been “on” all season.
After hitting just .189 in the shortened 2020 season, Bryan Reynolds has found his stroke again. He’s hitting .313 with 13 homers this year, including his three hits and home run last night. Shelton says he can tell the difference in Reynolds’ approach at the plate.
Chad Kuhl put together his second straight solid start. After giving up five runs in 3-and-a-third innings to the Brewers on June 12th, he’s pitched six innings with only one earned run both against the Indians last Sunday and against the Cardinals last night. Shelton says Kuhl is growing as a pitcher.
The Pirates say reliever Sam Howard threw a bullpen session yesterday with no restrictions. He’s on the 10-day injured list with a right knee problem.
Minor league pitcher Miguel Yajure was transferred to the 60-day injured list, but the team says it’s only because he will need that much time to stretch out his arm after shutting down June 2nd with a strained elbow. He’s throwing in Bradenton.
Shelton also said Altoona shortstop Oneil Cruz has been working out in the outfield before games, in an effort to make him a multi-position player. The Bucs are looking to get stronger in the outfield across the system and the 6-foot-7 Cruz is not a typical shortstop.
Wil Crowe will get the start for the Pirates in the second game of the series tonight in St. Louis. He’s 0-4 with a 6.42 ERA. Kwang Hyun Kim will start for St. Louis. He’s 1-and-5 with a 3.60 ERA. 7:50 airtime on WCCS
