Homer-Center grad Angel Piccirillo ran in the women’s 800 meters last night during the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the University of Oregon, but was eliminated from contention in the first round.
Piccirillo, one of the most decorated athletes in Indiana County and in Villanova University history, ran the race in 2:06:95, finishing ninth in her heat, which was one of five in the 800 meters. The top two finishers in each of five heats and the next six fastest times moved on to the semifinal round, but Piccirillo could not advance. She’d run a lifetime best time of 2:01.51 on June 11 at the Hoey Invitational to qualify for the Trials.
Piccirillo was a nine-time All-American and 11-time Big East champion at Villanova. She was also a nine-time champ at the Penn Relays.
