A bill that would allow the sale of “to-go” cocktails is headed back to the state House after it was amended in the Senate.
Senators voted 26-24 to pass their version of a bill that would make selling to-go cocktails by bars and restaurants permanent. That cocktail option was taken off the table when the PA House and Senate voted to end Governor Wolf’s Covid-19 emergency disaster declaration. The amendment made by the Senate would allow for liquor licensees, including bars, restaurants, beer distributors and convenience stores, to sell manufactured ready-to-drink cocktails in sealed containers.
Republican Senator Mike Regan said that the amendment would significantly increase state revenue and also help businesses.
Democrats have said that the move would actually hurt bars and restaurants. Senator Joe Pittman voted in favor of the amended bill.
If it passes the House, it will go to Wolf’s desk for his signature. Wolf said that he supported the original bill, but not the modified version that came out of the Senate.
