Penguins backup goalie Casey DeSmith had bilateral core muscle surgery yesterday and should be ready for training camp.
DeSmith was injured in a game May 3rd in Philadelphia and aggravated the injury in practice while attempting to return for the playoffs. He was 11-7-0 with a 2.54 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage this past season.
The Penguins said the estimated recovery time for DeSmith is six to eight weeks.
