The Pirates wasted another good effort by pitcher Tyler Anderson last night against the Dodgers.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Derek Shelton says the Pirates offense is hitting the ball hard, but not seeing results.
Shelton says Anderson is doing a great job but can’t get a break.
Anderson says he has to just take it one inning at a time.
Some bad news on the injury front, as first baseman Colin Moran, who is just off the injured list, took a fastball on the hand last night and had to leave the game. He will be evaluated today but it did not look good.
Better news: Pitcher Trevor Cahill is “recovering well” from his calf strain, according to director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. He’s on track to return this month after leaving a game against the Cardinals on May 19th.
There is still not a timeline for the return of pitcher Steven Brault, who has been out all season with a back strain. He is increasing his velocity in throwing sessions and has twice thrown off a mound in Florida.
Pitcher Jose Soriano, who was the Pirates’ top pick in the Rule 5 draft this year despite coming off Tommy John surgery, has new damage to his pitching elbow and may need to have the procedure redone.
Miguel Yajure has been diagnosed with ulnar neuritis in his pitching elbow and does not have structural damage. He is expected to begin throwing again in seven to 10 days.
Former Pirate Todd Frazier, whose 4-for-4 game with a home run against Venezuela last Saturday propelled the U.S. to a spot in the Tokyo Olympics, has signed a contract to play for the Frontier League Sussex County (New Jersey) Miners, giving him the chance to stay sharp with game at-bats before the Olympic tournament begins on July 28th. Frazier played 13 games for the Pirates this season.
