Jury selection is scheduled for today for two trials in Indiana County Court.
One of those trials is for Thomas Andrew Grasty of Delaware County, who turns 29 on Wednesday. He is charged in connection with a crash involving a car and a school bus at the intersection of West Pike and Ben Franklin Road in White Township on June 4th of 2019. He allegedly turned left in front of the bus as the bus went through the intersection. The car was wedged under the bus and pinned against a utility pole when emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Grasty was taken to IRMC and then to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police charged him with two misdemeanor DUI counts along with the summary traffic violations. No children were on the bus at the time.
Last week, a plea hearing was scheduled, but instead, a pre-trial motions hearing was held, and permission was granted for some testimony during the trial to happen using Zoom video conferencing. Jury selection will be held at 1:30 today for this trial.
A jury will also be selected for the trial of 27-year-old Michael James Buchinsky of Saltsburg, who is charged with conspiracy to theft and receiving stolen property connected with an incident on May 20th of last year. Jury selection will be held for this trial at 8:30 this morning.
