The State House will vote today on House Resolution 106 that looks to end some parts of Governor Tom Wolf’s disaster declaration that some state lawmakers say have been the “most destructive”.
House Resolution 106 was introduced on May 26th by House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff. The resolution will end the Wolf Administration’s ability to use the Covid-19 disaster declaration to engage in no-bid, single source contracting; re-establish work search requirements for those on unemployment; and end the Governor’s ability to use the emergency orders to mandate occupancy limits, stay-at-home orders or business closures.
As part of that, the Covid-19 disaster declaration can be extended until October 1st of this year as the General Assembly continues to review the various actions taken by the Wolf administration over the last 15 months.
The resolution follows the approval of two PA Constitutional Amendments during the May primary election. One amendment limited a Governor’s disaster declaration to 21 days unless it its extension is approved by the state general assembly. Benninghoff said that the resolution was the first step in bringing that approval into action.
