The state Public Utility Commission has warned residential electricity consumers to check their bills, as the quarterly rate adjustments that took effect on June 1st will start showing up soon in mailboxes across the commonwealth. All of the state’s electricity generators have raised their rates for the summer, including Penelec, where the increase is the highest in the state, 30 percent, from 4.981 cents per kilowatt hour to 6.462 cents.
The PUC says the electricity generation rates are not under its control, and it encourages comparison shopping and more closely monitored energy usage during the air conditioning season.
