Today is the 77th anniversary of D-Day, which seems appropriate for first day of the 13th PA Hero Walk, a cross-state journey from Philadelphia to Lower Burrell, in the New Kensington area. Walkers will traverse the 320 miles to raise money to assist veterans with basic needs such as housing, food, clothing, car or home repairs, and more.
The walk, which began in 2009, was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
Covering around 20 miles a day, the walkers will reach Indiana County on June 24th, departing Ligonier and arriving at the Derry Eagles Club at noon, and then at around 3:45 at Blairsville, where they will have dinner that evening at the Blairsville VFW.
After an overnight stay, they will depart the Blairsville Sheetz at 7:30 on the 25th and walk to the Saltsburg VFW, then to the Apollo Bridge. The next day, they will finally reach their destination in Lower Burrell the next day.
