The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Evgeni Malkin underwent successful knee surgery yesterday for a nagging injury that kept him out for several games at the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.
Malkin had injured his right knee during a 2-1 home loss to the Boston Bruins on March 16th at PPG Paints Arena. He was checked by Bruins’ defenseman Mark Tinordi near the boards, and the players right knees collided during the check. Malkin would miss 23 games, but dressed for the final four games of the regular season, but was injured again in the regular season finale against Buffalo. Malkin is going into the final year of his contract.
He will not be available for training camp in September, and a clear timetable for his return may be in place by that time.
