State police have released their statistics for the Memorial Day weekend.
Troopers from the Indiana Barracks were out in full force from May 28th to the 31st, and they made 16 DUI arrests over the weekend, investigated seven crashes, and only one person was reported injured over the weekend. There were no reported fatalities on state highways over the weekend. State police said there were no alcohol- or drug-related crashes in them. Police also initiated six criminal arrests, which were all related to drug crimes.
Police initiated 552 traffic stops and issued 551 traffic citations and 218 written warnings. 370 of those citations were for speeding, nine were for violations of the state’s “Move Over” law that requires motorists to move over one lane of travel if possible for any emergency along the side of a state road. Six citations and 16 warnings were issued for seatbelt violations. Troopers also handed out 166 other citations.
A comparison to the 2020 statistics was not able to be performed as stats were not released due to the pandemic. The last statistics available were for 2019, which had 1,245 traffic stops, and 1,323 citations issued. Seven crashes were reported in 2019, with two of them alcohol-related and one of them drug-related.
