Chad Kuhl returned, but threw too many pitches and did not last long, as the Pirates lost to the Kansas City Royals.
Greg Brown has the story:
Manager Derek Shelton says Kuhl was okay in his first start off the injured list, but needs to be sharper.
Kuhl says he began to feel more comfortable as the game went on, but knows he needs better control.
Catcher Jacob Stallings, who has managed to stay off the injured list despite a variety of ailments, says the Bucs need to get injured players back soon to avoid another month like May, when they were 12 games under .500.
Relief pitcher Nick Mears was optioned to Indianapolis to make room on the roster for Kuhl’s return. Colin Moran and Phillip Evans are ready to start their rehab assignments with Indianapolis. Moran was put on the injured list with a groin injury on May 9th. Evans has been out since May 13th with a hamstring issue.
