The Indiana County NAACP will once again join others across the nation in celebrating the anniversary of one of the U.S.’s most historic days.
Juneteenth is a four-day celebration geared towards remembering June 19, 1865, the day the U.S. abolished slavery. The celebration will take place over Zoom, with a theme of “Honoring Our Past, Fostering the Future.”
According to a news release, the program features both recorded and live music, soul food and drinks, a Phenomenal Woman Award, T-shirt motto contest and more including a keynote address by Jerika Richardson, the senior vice president for Equitable Justice & Strategic Initiatives in the National Urban League.
There are four events planned from Wednesday, June 16, to Saturday, June 19, with all scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The first event will discuss the “ABCs of Juneteenth”, and will also feature recognition for NAACP 2021 scholarship recipients.
Tickets and pre-registration are required to join each program. Registration is open until one hour prior to each day’s event. More information can be found by calling (724) 464-9152.
