It is budget season for Indiana County’s school boards, and Marion Center’s board is set to take a vote tonight on a tentative spending plan for the upcoming school year. At its planning meeting last week, the board approved placing a budget of about $27 million on tonight’s agenda. The plan would be displayed for a month and could be modified before a final vote, which is scheduled for next month.
There are some interesting items on Indiana Area’s Audit & Finance Committee meeting agenda tonight. Along with discussion of the district’s budget, the committee is expected to review estimates on the Eisenhower Elementary School, which was closed last month because of damage from a fire.
The committee will discuss the summer camp budget, as enrollment continues to climb. It’s already at more than 400 students, and with the popularity of the program, funding may need to be increased from $250,000 to $300,000.
Finally, the committee will look at options for disposing of the old artificial turf from Andy Kuzneski Field, which will get a new carpet this summer. Among the considerations is whether or not the turf could be donated to local groups and how to solicit requests for donations, waivers from those who would accept the turf, and whether there could be other uses for it.
The meeting will be virtual and available at the district’s website, iasd.cc.
