HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
The District 6 baseball playoffs began yesterday with four games involving Heritage Conference teams.
In Double-A, Marion Center came from three runs down to beat Claysburg-Kimmel, 6-5.

Stingers coach Mike Pacconi says the dramatic fifth inning turned on the at-bat from first baseman Landin Bennett, which ended with a two-run single.
Pacconi says it was a special win for his seniors.
At United, the Lions ran into a tough Southern Huntingdon team and fell, 7-0.

Lions coach Doug McNulty says the Rockets’ Zach Baird was too tough.
McNulty says that despite the loss, it was a special season for the Lions.
AA #1 seed Portage beat Northern Cambria in eight innings, 4-3.
The other AA game, which will decide Marion Center’s opponent next Tuesday, is today at 1:00, with Bishop Guilfoyle hosting Mount Union.
In Class A, top seed Saltsburg ousted a determined Penns Manor team, 8-7 in eight innings. The Comets opened up a 4-1 lead in the third but the Trojans’ Braden Staats knocked in two with a double to make it 4-3. Penns Manor’s Kayden Detwiler cracked a solo homer in the fourth inning to make it 5-3, but the Trojans rallied again, tying it on a run-scoring single by Angelo Bartolini and an RBI grounder by Rocco Bartolini.
The Comet’s Brandon Dunmire singled in two in the sixth, but once more the Trojans fought back, scoring in their half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Staats and a ground-ball error by Penns Manor that tied the game at seven. Then after a scoreless seventh inning, the Trojans got the game-winning run in the eighth on three walks and a run-scoring groundout by Brady Yard.
Saltsburg will take on Moshannon Valley, a 12-0 winner over Conemaugh Valley, next Thursday.
WPIAL SOFTBALL
Indiana’s season came to an end with an 11-0 loss to Armstrong. Indiana’s Tori Manzek was 2-2 with a double and Ashlynn Winslow also had a double for the Little Indians, who finish at 11-8.
WPIAL LACROSSE
The fourth-seeded Indiana girls knocked off #12 Franklin Regional, 13-8 yesterday to set up a semifinal game against #1 Blackhawk, which shut down Chartiers Valley 13-12.
