The Blairsville Bobcats are the Heritage Conference champions after outslugging Marion Center last night. Jake Slebodnick has the report.
The Stingers threatened with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but Blairsville’s Emmy Skirboll took a home run away from Jasmine Hill, limiting Marion Center to a two-run sacrifice fly.
Bobcats’ pitcher Hannah Foust said after the game that she and Skirboll drew that play up before the game.
Senior Kirsten Smith, who had two hits including a home run, said this was a great way to end her senior season.
Head Coach Frank Harsh said it’s on to district playoffs.
Indiana fell to New Castle in the WPIAL baseball playoffs yesterday. Mark Bertig has the story.
DISTRICT 6 PLAYOFFS
The District 6 baseball playoffs begin today, with five Heritage Conference teams in action.
- On WDAD today, Class AA second seed Marion Center will play host to Claysburg-Kimmel.
- On WCCS, AA number-four seed United welcomes Southern Huntingdon.
- Also in AA, eighth-seeded Northern Cambria travels to top seed Portage.
- In Class A, Saltsburg is the top seed and will take on the Heritage Conference’s other Class A representative, Penns Manor.
WPIAL
The Indiana High softball team plays a second round 5A playoff game today against top-seed Armstrong. Indiana has played the Riverhawks twice this season, losing 6-5 on April 20th and 9-4 on May 12th. The game is scheduled for four o’clock at Plum High School.
At the WPIAL track & Field Class AAA championships at Slippery Rock, Indiana’s Joel Beckwith finished fourth in the 3,200 meters. Charles Weber was fourth in the pole vault, and Abby Huey was seventh in the 400 meters,. All three qualify for the state meet.
In boys lacrosse, Indiana fell to Chartiers Valley, 7-5 in the WPIAL quarterfinals. The Indiana girls will play Franklin Regional in a quarterfinal match today.
