UPDATE:
Further details were released concerning a water rescue last night in Blairsville.
The Blairsville Fire Department and the county’s Water Rescue Team, Blairsville Police and Citizens’ Ambulance were dispatched by Indiana County 911 at 8:33 PM for a report of two people in the Conemaugh River between the Bairdstown Bridge and the Route 22 Bridge. Two boats were launched from the boat launch, but ran into some difficulty with the shallow water and strong current as they tried to navigate upstream, but eventually, rescuers were able to reach the two people and get them on board. The boat then made its way back to the boat launch, but a boat that assisted at the scene was damaged and had mechanical problems so other boats had to assist the stranded boat.
Crews were in the water for about an hour. In total, four boats, 20 swift water technicians and others were able to assist in the rescue.
Both of the victims were examined on-scene by Citizens’ Ambulance EMTs. No injuries were reported.
WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Two people had to be rescued from the Conemaugh River on Sunday.
Indiana County 911 dispatched the Blairsville Fire Department and Water Rescue Team along with Blairsville Police and Citizens’ Ambulance at 8:34 PM to North Water Street for the incident. Blairsville fire officials say two individuals were taking a swim in the Conemaugh between the Bairdstown Bridge and the Route 22 Bridge when the strong current put them in trouble and one may have suffered an injury while in the water. Water rescue crews deployed from the boat launch and they were able to get the two to safety.
Citizens Ambulance evaluated both people on-scene. No one was taken to the hospital.
