The Heritage Conference baseball championship game happens tonight at First Commonwealth Field in Center Township, featuring the top-seeded United Lions against the number-two Saltsburg Trojans. The two teams prevailed in a three-way race with Marion Center for the top two spots.
The game will air on WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160, (6:45 PM) and on the TribLive High School Sports Network. Renda Media will stream the video of the game on the WCCS YouTube channel, which can be accessed through the WCCS Facebook page. Admission to the field for the game will be $5.
DISTRICT 6
Meanwhile, the District 6 baseball and softball tournament is scheduled to get underway later this week. Eight teams will make the field in both Class A and AA.
In Class A baseball, Saltsburg sits atop the rankings, followed by Juniata Valley. The rest of the top eight are Bishop McCort, and Conemaugh Valley, Moshannon Valley, St. Joseph’s, Blacklick Valley, and Penns Manor.
In Double-A, the top eight are Portage, Marion Center, Mount Union, Bishop Guilfoyle, United, Southern Huntingdon, Claysburg Kimmel, and West Shamokin. Even though United sits in the fifth spot, the Lions have won more games than anybody else, with 16 wins in 20 games.
In softball, the Class A rankings feature two Heritage Conference schools. Portage holds the top spot, followed by Conemaugh Valley, Williamsburg, Glendale, Penns Manor, Blacklick Valley, Homer Center, and Ferndale.
In Double-A, the top eight are Marion Center (the number-one ranked team in the state), Mount Union, Southern Huntingdon, Blairsville, Penns Valley, Claysburg Kimmel, United, and Juniata Valley. The tournament brackets have not yet been released.
WPIAL
In the WPIAL, Indiana takes on New Castle Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at Butler’s Pullman Park. You’ll hear that game on WDAD, FM 100.3 and AM 1450, at 3:15.
In WPIAL softball, Indiana takes on Latrobe tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 at Valley High School.
