A cohort of 21 state senators has sent a letter to Governor Tom Wolf urging him to move up the date for lifting covid-19 restrictions from Memorial Day to the Friday before Memorial Day, thus giving businesses a full holiday weekend to “begin to recoup the losses suffered during covid-19.”
The senators point out that they are not aware of any scientific standard or evidence that the move would cause any serious health risks. Senator Joe Pittman was one of the lawmakers who signed the letter.
A Wolf spokesperson responded that the governor remains comfortable with the May 31st date to lift restrictions and said if the lawmakers want to push the date up, they should encourage anyone over age 16 to get vaccinated.
