Prior to Thursday’s virtual forum, State System Chancellor Dan Greenstein appeared in a joint house committee hearing on Tuesday to update legislators on the state system consolidation plan, as required by Act 50 of the Public School Code.
Greenstein also talked about the amount of job losses within the state system, saying that a little over 1 percent of cut jobs in each region will be among administrative positions. He adds that the state system is continuing to work to offer incentivized retirement plans to help those who are affected by these cuts.
He also talked about how consolidating could increase the breadth of experience students gain while at college.
He adds that by integrating smaller schools, students can get the most out of their college career both in and out of the classroom.
Chancellor Greenstein is scheduled to discuss the redesign during tomorrow’s virtual forum with topics including funding higher education, particularly at state-owned universities.
