Roansy Contreras set a new career-high in strikeouts Tuesday night, but a late-inning rally by the Bowie Baysox prevented the Altoona Curve from taking its season opener in front of a sold out PNG Field.
The Baysox were scoreless throughout the first seven innings, but jumped on reliever Yerry De Los Santos in the final two frames. Bowie hit a game-tying home run in the eighth and added a run in the ninth to put them ahead.
Oneil Cruz led the Curve offensively with two hits and Canaan Smith-Njigba collected a double along with a walk. Jeffery Passanito struck out four over two innings in middle relief.
Altoona is 0-1 to begin the season. Both teams return to action on Wednesday with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
