Rounds two and three of the NFL draft were held last night, and the Steelers focused on the offense with both of their picks.
In the second round, the Steelers picked up tight end Pat Freiermuth from Penn State. The 6-5, 251 pound Freiermuth was the second tight end picked up in the draft. He is Penn State’s record holder for career touchdown receptions by a tight end with 61. In 30 games, he had 92 career catches for 1,185 yards. Steelers TE Coach Alfredo Roberts says that he has a flexibility that gives them options for different offensive looks.
In Round 3, the Steelers addressed the loss of Maurkice Pouncey by drafting 6-2, 305 pound red-shirt junior Kendrick Green out of Illinois. Steelers Offensive Line Coach Adrian Klemm says that he attended the Illinois pro day and said that Green could play all three interior O-Line spots, but the Steelers intent is for him to be in the center.
Rounds 4-7 will happen today with the Steelers picking twice in the 4th round, once in the 6th and twice in the 7th.
