The Pirates lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 Friday night, taking the team down below .500. The record now for the Pirates is 12-13.
The Cardinals took the lead in the 1st as Nolan Arenado hit an RBI double to left field to score Dylan Carlson. He would repeat the feat in the 3rd to score Tommy Edman. In the 4th, Tyler O’Neill hit a home run to center field. The Pirates scored as Kevin Newman hit an RBI single to left field to bring Bryan Reynolds home.
In the 6th, Matt Carpenter homered to center field to score three more runs. In the bottom of the 6th, the Pirates took advantage of a balk and a wild pitch that scored Gregory Polanco and Kevin Newman, respectively. Paul Goldschmidt of the Cards reached base in the 9th on a fielding error by Adam Frazier to score Justin Williams.
J.T. Brubaker took the loss, going 2-2 on the season now. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out 7 in five innings.
The Pirates and Cards play tonight at 6:10 on WCCS.
