The Penguins and Bruins play the second game of a two-game set at PPG Paints Arena tonight, with the Pens having won four games out of four on the current home swing. Jake Guentzel’s third period goal on Sunday gave the Pens a 1-0 win over the Bruins and vaulted Pittsburgh into sole possession of first place, one point ahead of Washington. After tonight’s game, the Penguins will head to Washington for a two-game series starting on Thursday night.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins have responded to a very trying, injury-plagued season.
Sullivan says he was not surprised that Tristan Jarry has been so good since a disastrous third period against New Jersey last Tuesday.
The Penguins magic number to make the playoffs is four points, meaning any combination of a Penguins win and a regulation loss by the Rangers will put the Pens into the playoffs. In the NHL East, the 5th-place Rangers host last-place Buffalo tonight. The second-place Capitals host the third-place Islanders, and the 6th-place Flyers visit the 7th-place Devils.
